This sale is for a single gut A string. The string diameter is:

Gut is the traditional material for musical instrument strings, and was always used on double bass until steel became available.
The strings are brown, semi-translucent and made from natural material.

Gut is a much lighter material than the steel that are often used today.
The sound of gut is clear and full bodied, and has excellent sustain and a warm response.
Our gut strings will provide a different tone for both solo and orchestra players.
Gut strings are equally good when playing authentic chamber music and will allow a degree of
retuning to traditional tunings if required.
Folk, country and jazz bass players often use gut bass strings to provide that vintage sound.

Compared to steel, gut strings will go out of tune more often,
they feel much nicer on your fingers and have a more mellow sound.
Since our gut contrabass strings are handmade from the best material, the tend to be more expensive
than modern steel or synthetic(nylon) strings.
If you want the mellow tone and the feel of traditional gut then these are
far better than the synthetic alternatives.

Our gut strings are made by hand out of sheep gut which is processed to make it the correct diameter.
Since the strings are made from a natural material, thay are more sensitive to changes in humidity and
temperature than steel or synthetic strings.
The raw material used is the lining of the sheep`s intestine (Mutton serosa).
This material is very delicate and cannot be machine processed.
The twisting and stretching is all done by hand by craftsman who have many years of experience and are able to correctly
judge the string tension and make corrections.
The gut has a lower tension, softer feel and provides warmer richer tones.
The high twist gives better sustain and tuning stability.

If you play baroque music bluegrass, rockabilly or jazz then you should try out a full set of gut strings.

Some comments from customers who have fitted our gut strings to a double bass

- Get that action right up and give it a few weeks to get rid of the twang -

- I have just received a D gut string and now have a D and G on my bass. This new D string is currently very loose and twangy just as the G was some time ago (it sounds great now) Although relatively new to gut I`m learning to give it lots of time to settle and stretch -

- The string is a great affordable way into a normally very pricey market -

- I have in any case recommended the product students and other players if they want to try out the gut sound. A great product -
